MAYO CLINIC WAYFINDING
This project allowed my team to work with the Mayo Clinic in-house design staff in Rochester, Minnesota. My team was tasked with designing a wayfinding system to help visitors, staff, and patients navigate through the “Subway” and “Skyway” which connected the Mayo Clinic campus and downtown Rochester. When navigating through this system it felt like you were traveling through a maze, so successful wayfinding was desperately needed.
The wayfinding system needed to provide clear directional information, give a sense of distance from the destination, and allow for different user needs. One crucial element of the system was to remind the users whether they were in the “Subway” or “Skyway” because it was easy to get confused. Through the use of color coding, a simplified map, clearly organized directional information, and location numbering system we were able to help these areas be navigated with less anxiety for the users.
