FREE HIGH FIVE INTERVENTION

For this project we had to create an interaction. It could be anything, which was part of the difficulty of this assignment. To start, we were asked to create a “low-tech” experiment to see how we could get people to react and learn from the process. I started with a simple sign that said “Free High Five” with a big hand glued to a piece of black foam core board. I managed to get some interaction but it seemed to fall short because there was no reward for interacting except the expected high five. The next step of the project we were asked to develop a more in depth project that included sound in some way. I decided to add sound to my “Free High Five” project by integrating a contact mic into the sign itself and run that mic into a guitar amp. This experiment proved to be significantly more successful because it gave an immediate reward to the user that they could tell was caused by their own interactions. I had a wide range of interaction, which spanned from excitement, avoidance, fear, curiosity, and even anger. In my opinion, any time you can get a wide range of reactions from an interaction experiment you have made something quite successful.
