IOWA STATE - COLLGE OF DESIGN WAYFINDING
This was a theoretical redesign of the wayfinding system at Iowa State’s College of Design. Since the location of the wayfinding system was a more creative and less rigid environment, I decided to design some more whimsical characters to support the signage.
All of the signage is either printed onto or supported by robotic characters who are made from recycled/reclaimed materials. Using these characters, I was able to give the signage an extra level of personality that is not always possible in wayfinding design. However, since the support structures were complicated robotic figures, I made the presentation of the information as simple as possible to avoid confusion. I also used a simple three color system to help differentiate the different types of signs. Purple was used for orientation, green was used for directional, and blue was used for identification. Even though most users may not notice these color distinctions, the distinction between sign categories is important and a subtle way to help with user navigation.
